Sasikala gets 4 year jail term in DA case

Sasikala gets 4 year jail term in DA case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday, 14th February 2017, set aside Karnataka High Court’s order and convicted All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief V K Sasikala for 4 years in a two-decade-old disproportionate assets case.

In  a major setback to Sasikala, who was aiming to be the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the Court said she must serve rest of her jail sentence of three years and six months as she has already served almost six months in jail. After being convicted in disproportionate assets by Supreme Court, Sasikala cannot contest elections for the next 6 years.

The bench of Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Amitava Roy pronounced the verdict that was reserved on June 7, 2016, at around 10:30 am and convicted Sasikala in the 20-year-old corruption case. National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Ram Madhav took to twitter and said that the Governor was right for the judgement. “Shashikala convicted. Governor was right in waiting for the judgement”, he tweeted.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday said that he was expecting Sasikala’s conviction. “I was expecting the conviction. I don’t think she can escape the 4 years sentence”, he was quoted by ANI.
Tamilan Prasanna, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) said the Supreme Court’s decision is a great success for Tamil Nadu people and is a victory of truth and judicial system. “This is a great success for Tamil Nadu people. It is a victory of truth and judicial system”, Prasanna said.

BJP National Spokesperson Meenakashi Lekhi also took to twitter and gave credits to Subramanian Swamy for his persistence and hard work that has convicted Sasikala in DA case. Swamy persistence & hard work has convicted sasikala , stands convicted in DA case “, she said.

O. Panneerselvam revolts against Sasikala

O. Panneerselvam revolts against Sasikala
Chennai: Tamilnadu  took one more trun on Tuesday, 7th February 2017 in unfolding late night drama chief minister O. Panneerselvam finally spoke up against All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary V.K. Sasikala.

After spending nearly 40 minutes meditating in front of the late chief minister J. Jayalalithaa’s memorial at around 9 pm on Tuesday, he said, “I was forced to resign from the Chief Minister’s post.”
“If people want I will recall my resignation,” he said.
“Anyone (not necessarily Panneerselvam) who works for the betterment of the party and the state should lead. And, if required, I would fight all alone to save the people of Tamil Nadu,” he said
“I rejected the chief minister’s chair. But they (AIADMK) compelled me saying that people would accept me as Amma had appointed me twice in earlier occasions.”
He added: “Now they have embarrassed me and the Chief minister’s chair”.  Panneerselvam began addressing the press by saying, “I’m going to say some truths. My conscience has been pricking me.”
Explaining the incidents that happened during the hospitalization of late chief minister J.Jayalalithaa, he claimed that Jayalalithaa had said that E. Madhusudhanan should become the general secretary of the AIADMK.
This comes in at a time when a lack of clarity continues to loom over Tamil Nadu politics.
Sasikala, who was appointed as the general secretary of the ruling party on 31 December, was elected as legislature party leader by the AIADMK legislators on Sunday, 5th February 2017. The party had said that she will soon become the chief minister of the state.
However, with the Supreme Court on Monday saying that the verdict in a disproportionate assets (DA) case in which Sasikala is an accused will be delivered within a week, there has been a strong buzz that the governor Vidyasagar Rao is considering the legal aspects before administering the oath of office to Sasikala. Sasikala is the second accused in the DA case after Jayalalithaa.
Earlier, former speaker P..H.. Pandyan alleged that Jayalalitha was pushed at home before she was admitted to hospital. He also said that Jayalalitha told him that Shashikala should not become the General Secretary of the Party or Chief Minister of the State.

On Monday, 6th February 2017 in a hurriedly called press conference  doctors of Appollo Hospital including British Doctor Richers  Pealay rejected the roomers that there was an conspiracy behind Jayalalitha’s death. They said that Jayalalitha died due to failure of multy organ failure and cardiac arrest.

Jayalalithaa laid to rest at Marina beach

Jayalalithaa laid to rest at Marina beach
Chennai:  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa (68) was laid to rest at the Marina Beach, Chennai on Tuesday, 6th December 2016 evening as President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the nation to pay their last respects to the iconic actor-turned-politician.

As the sun began to set, Jayalalithaa’s confidante Sasikala performed the final rituals overseen by a Brahmin priest before her tricolour-draped body in a sandalwood casket was lowered into a grave near the MGR memorial.
As an era ended in Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa’s last journey started from Rajaji Hall, where lakhs thronged for a final look at their iconic leader, and slowly moved towards the Marina Beach flooded with mourners.
The three-kilometre procession through Chennai streets, packed on both sides by men and women, many weeping, consumed more than an hour.
The AIADMK chief was laid to rest with full state honours next to her mentor and party founder M.G. Ramachandran or MGR, who brought the young Jayalalithaa from filmdom into the male-dominated Dravidian politics.
Her successor Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and Sasikala, dressed in black, were seated on the military truck that towed the glass casket-laden carriage with Jayalalithaa’s body.
Her admirers and fans, young and old, showered petals at the hearse. Many refused to accept that Jayalalithaa had passed away, leaving the AIADMK orphaned.
As the funeral procession reached its destination, sobs filled the air. Many were in tears.
There were dramatic displays of emotion, with people wailing inconsolably and beating their chests and heads. There were loud cries of “Amma, Amma”.
Thousands of security personnel were deployed as top politicians from across the country attended the last rites of Jayalalithaa, 68, who died shortly after midnight on Monday following a 74-day battle with illness.
Mukherjee and Modi led the nation in paying respects to Jayalalithaa. Both walked separately towards the casket with folded hands, bowed and laid a floral wreath. Former PrimeMinisters H.D. Devegowda, Man Mohan Singh, Union Minister Venkiah Naidu, Karnataka CM Siddaramiah, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Film actor Rajanikanth apart from Chief Ministers of  Delhi, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Puducherry were few among the prominent personalities who paid floral tributes to Jayalalitha.
The otherwise throbbing Chennai shut down on Tuesday. So did much of Tamil Nadu, a state where Jayalalithaa — Amma to her followers — was revered by millions.
Across the country, political stalwarts noted how the AIADMK chief had unleashed numerous pro-poor schemes as Chief Minister that earned her fame not only in the state but across the country.
Security forces kept a close vigil across Tamil Nadu amid fears of self-harming protests by her fans.

Tamil Nadu has declared a week-long mourning, during which schools and colleges will be shut for three days. No state transport corporation buses plied on Tuesday and millions stayed indoors.
The central government too announced a day of mourning.
US Ambassador Richard Verma mourned her death. “On behalf of the US, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Jayalalithaa and the people of Tamil Nadu.”
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said he was saddened by her death and noted that she had a “towering presence in Indian politics”. Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu are separated by a strip of sea.

At the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai, the party flag was brought down to half mast but was restored to its original position once the Apollo clarification came.
