Pioneer of Natural Farming!
'Masanobu Fukuoka, Sage of Natural Farming, died in Japan on 16 August Saturday 2008. Paryaya salutes to him for his valuable contribution to natural and organic farming which even now could be a boon to our farmers who are suiciding due to ill effects of modern farming. His name thrills hundreds of farmers today all over world. His book 'The One Straw Revolution' is 'Bhagavad-Gita' to many farmers who follow natural and organic farming. His suggestions on Natural farming saved many farmers after they suffered a lot due to use of chemical fertilisers in their farms. By his simple thoughts he rose to the level of 'Sage of Natural Farming.' He is Masanobu Fukuoka of Japan.
Winner of Ramon Magsaysy Award apart from Deshikottama Award from Karnataka, Fukuoka inspired many people in Karnataka also including natural farmer C. Narayana Reddy of Bangalore, Santhosh Kaulagi of Melukote, Shivananjiah Balekayi of J.C. Pura, Kailas Murthy of Mysore and writers like Purnachandra Tejasvi and P. Lankesh.
When visited to India to receive Deshikottama Award in 1988, He he met C. Narayana Reddy at Bangalore and had discussion about natural farming and other issues in Reddy's farm. Reddy recollects his warning of disasters in Bangalore City if its green cover was continuously depleted.
Fukuoka spent about three hours with Naryana Reddy and collected information about the farming practices in the state. He appreciated the growth of dense trees, says Reddy.
Observing the increase of population in Bangalore, Mr. Fukuoka who was introduced by a Christian missionary in White Field of Bangalore to Narayana Reddy, said that there must be adequate green cover to provide un polluted atmosphere in Bangalore in the backdrop increase in population.
Staunch follower of Gandhi and Buddha, Fukuoka was a micro biologist. He quit the job as research scientist and devoted his life to develop a unique small scale organic farming system that does not require weeding, pesticide or fertiliser applications. or even tilling.
His system of farming known as 'Natural Farming' or "Fukuoka Farming' became so popular worldwide his book 'One Straw Revolution' turned to be the Bhagavad-Gita Gita or Bible to many farmers who wanted to farm without pesticides and chemical fertilisers. It has been translated to many languages including Kannada.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನುಸಾಗುವಳಿ ಮಾಡದೇ, ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರ ಬಳಸದೇ, ಕಳೆ ತೆಗೆಯದೇ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೀಟನಾಶಕ ಬಳಸದೇ ಅನುಸರಿಸುವ `ಸಹಜ ಕೃಷಿ ಪದ್ಧತಿ'ಯನ್ನು ವಿಶ್ವಕ್ಕೇ ಹಂಚಿ 20ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ `ಕೃಷಿ ದಾರ್ಶನಿಕ' 95ರ ಹರೆಯದ `ಕೃಷಿ ಅಜ್ಜ' ಜಪಾನಿನ ಮಸನೋಬು ಫುಕುವೋಕ ಅವರು 2008 ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 16 ಶನಿವಾರ ರಾತ್ರಿ ನಿಧನರಾದರು.
ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಜಪಾನಿನ ಶಿಕೊಕು ದ್ವೀಪದ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮಸನೊಬು ಫುಕುವೋಕ ಒಬ್ಬ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಿ. ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ ಕೃಷಿಕ, ತತ್ವಜ್ಞಾನಿ, ದಾರ್ಶನಿಕ ಏನೆಲ್ಲ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. `ಏನೂ ಮಾಡದೇ ಸುಮ್ಮನಿದ್ದು ಬಿಡಿ; ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ತಾನೇ ಮಾಡಿ ಮುಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ' ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಕೃಷಿ ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೇ ಹೊಸ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸಾರಿದ್ದರು.
ಮೂರು ದಶಕಗಳ ನಿರಂತರ ಕೃಷಿ ಅನುಭವದಿಂದ `ಒನ್ ಸ್ಟ್ರಾ ರೆವಲ್ಯೂಷನ್' (`ಒಂದು ಹುಲ್ಲಿನ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿ') ಕೃತಿ ರಚಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ವಿಶ್ವ ಅನೇಕ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ತಲುಪಿದರು.
ಕನ್ನಡ ನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಅಜ್ಜನ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ : ಕನ್ನಡ ನಾಡಿನ ಅನೇಕ ರೈತರು, ಸ್ವಯಂ ಸೇವಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು `ಈ ಸಹಜ ಕೃಷಿಕ ಅಜ್ಜನ' ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಯನ್ನೇ ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸಿವೆ. ಸಾವಯವ ಕೃಷಿಕ ಎಲ್.ನಾರಾಯಣರೆಡ್ಡಿ, ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಕೈಲಾಸ್ ಮೂರ್ತಿ, ಶಿವನಾಪುರ ರಮೇಶ್, ಶಿಕಾರಿಪುರದ ನಂದೀಶ.. ಹೀಗೆ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದರೆ ಅದು ಹನುಮಂತನ ಬಾಲದಂತೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಫುಕುವೋಕರ ಸಹಜ ಕೃಷಿ ಎಷ್ಟರ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಬೀರಿತೆಂದರೆ ಅನೇಕ ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರುಗಳು, ಕೃಷಿ ಪದವೀಧರರು ಓದನ್ನು ಮೊಟಕುಗೊಳಿಸಿ, ಉದ್ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಬದಿಗೊತ್ತಿ ಕೃಷಿಗೆ `ಏರು'ವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿತು.
ಹೀಗೆ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿತರಾದ ಮೇಲುಕೋಟೆಯ ಜನಪದ ಸೇವಾ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟಿನ ಸಂತೋಷ್ ಕೌಲಗಿ ಫುಕುವೋಕ ಅವರ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ತರ್ಜುಮೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ನಂತರ ದಿವಂಗತ ಕೆ.ಪಿ.ಪೂರ್ಣಚಂದ್ರ ತೇಜಸ್ವಿಯವರು `ಸಹಜ ಕೃಷಿ' ಮಾಡುತ್ತಲೇ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಬರೆದರು. ದಿವಂಗತ ಲಂಕೇಶ್ ಅವರು 1985ರಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಫುಕುವೋಕರ `ಕೃಷಿ ಪದ್ಧತಿ' ಕುರಿತು ಲೇಖನ ಬರೆದಾಗ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ `ಸಹಜ ಕೃಷಿ'ಯ ಪರ್ವ ಆರಂಭವಾಯಿತು.
ಫುಕವೋಕರ ನೆನೆದಾಗ:
`80ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷಿ ದುಬಾರಿಯಾದಾಗ, ಲಂಕೇಶರ ಲೇಖನದ ಮೂಲಕ ಫುಕುವೋಕರ `ಸಹಜ ಕೃಷಿ' ಪರಿಚಯವಾಯಿತು. ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಹೊರೆಯಿಲ್ಲದೇ, ಪರಿಸರಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾನಿಮಾಡದೇ, ಆದಾಯ ಗಳಿಸುವ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯ ಕೃಷಿ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯಿಂದ ನನ್ನ ತೋಟ `ಕೃಷಿ ತಪೋಭೂಮಿ'ಯಾಯಿತು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ಫುಕುವೋಕರನ್ನು `20ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ `ಕೃಷಿ ಪ್ರವರ್ತಕ, ಚಿಂತಕ, ದಾರ್ಶನಿಕ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ನಮ್ಮಂತಹ `ಏಕಲವ್ಯರಿಗೆ' ಅವರು ದ್ರೋಣಾಚಾರ್ಯ ಎಂದು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃಷಿ ಪ್ರೇರಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಚಿಕ್ಕನಾಯ್ಕನಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಜೆ.ಸಿ.ಪುರದ ಕೃಷಿಕ ಶಿವನಂಜಯ್ಯ ಬಾಳೇಕಾಯಿ ನೆನೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.
`ರಾಸಾಯನಿಕ ಕೃಷಿಯಿಂದ ನಷ್ಟ ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದಾಗ ಸಂತೋಷ್ ಅವರ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ನನ್ನ ನೆರವಿಗೆ ಬಂತು. ಫುಕುವೋಕ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯಿಂದಲೇ ಸಹಜ ಕೃಷಿಯತ್ತ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕಿದೆ. `ಫುಕುವೋಕ' ನನ್ನ ಕೃಷಿ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯ ತಳಹದಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿ ಎಂದು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಕೈಲಾಸ್ ಮೂರ್ತಿ.
ಹೀಗೆ ದೇಶದ ಹಲವು ಕೃಷಿಕರನ್ನು `ಪರಿಸರ ಸ್ನೇಹಿ' ಕೃಷಿಯತ್ತ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯಲು ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಬೀರಿದ ಸಹಜ ಕೃಷಿ ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದಕ ಮಸನೋಬು ಫುಕುವೋಕ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಭಾರತದ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ `ದೇಶಿಕೋತ್ತಮ' ಹಾಗೂ ನೊಬೆಲ್ ಪುರಸ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮನಾದ ಫಿಲಿಫೈನ್ಸಿನ ರಾಮನ್ ಮ್ಯಾಗ್ಸಸೇ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳು ಸಂದಿವೆ. ಪುಕುವೋಕ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಈ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳು ಸಂದಿವೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಬದಲು ಪುಕುವೋಕ ಅವರ ಮಡಿಲಿಗೆ ಬೀಳುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಈ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಕಿರೀಟಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಸ ಗರಿ ಮೂಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿವೆ ಎಂದರೆ ತಪ್ಪಾಗಲಾರದು.
